The Transdiagnostic Addiction Lab is currently recruiting participants for several studies. Learn more about each of the current studies below.

Video gaming study

Are  you 18+,  play video games for a minimum of 6 hours per week, regularly play (at least once a week) the game Apex Legends on PC, PS5, or Xbox Series X, fluent in English and live in Halifax? 

If you answered yes to all of the questions above, you are eligible for our study! As compensation for participating, participants will be entered in a draw to win a $400 Amazon gift card.

What You Will Be Asked to Do  ?

This study has four parts:

1. Online Survey (10-15 min): Complete a questionnaire on gaming habits, mental health, personality, emotions, gambling, and drug use. Afterward, you'll be scheduled for an in-lab gaming session.
2. Pre-Session Survey (10-15 min): Before gaming, complete a short in-lab survey on your thoughts and emotions about gaming.
3. Gaming Session (up to 2.5 hrs): Wear physiological sensors and play Apex Legends for as long as you wish, up to 2.5 hours.
4. Post-Session Survey (10-15 min): Complete a final in-lab survey on your thoughts and emotions during gameplay.

Playing habits of sports gamblers

We are seeking people over the age of 16 who have spent money to enter into an online daily fantasy sports contest with cash prizes (e.g. DraftKings, FanDuel) in the past year. We are interested in how people who participate in sports-related gambling have reacted to the COVID-19 pandemic, and how their gambling habits may have changed. Participation involves completing a 1-hour online survey related to your gambling habits, personality, and mental health. All participants who complete the survey will be compensated with a $10 gift card.
